Vintage Notes
After a dry winter, the 2020 growing season began with typical temperatures and normal timing for bud break and flowering. As summer progressed, there were a couple heat waves and experienced poor air quality from the Complex Fires during the fall months. Fortunately, the smoke wasn’t heavy enough in Livermore Valley to impact our grapes. The quality fruit produced balanced wines with great acidity, although the yields were slightly below average.
Vineyard Notes
The fruit was harvested from Estate Block 1, Block 11, and Block 12. Block 1 is planted in 4’ x 8’ rows of head-trained vines, on a well-drained, alluvial plain with deposits of gravel and rock helping to produce, year-after-year, outstanding Petite Sirah grapes. Blocks 11 and 12 are on the north side of South Livermore Ave where it intersects with Concannon Blvd. The austere, gravelly and rocky top soil causes excellent drainage and low water retention which encourage roots to delve deep into rich subsoils to find nourishment.
